誤用?それとも、非慣習的?

While I was watching TV the other day, the TV show said that more native speakers of Japanese use the expression 煮詰まる in a wrong way, like 煮詰まってきたので、気分転換に散歩でもしよう。 This Japanese sentence means that as I can't concentrate on my study, can't come up with any good idea, or can't organize my though, it might be better to take a walk and let off steam. However, some people claim that this way of using the expression, 煮詰まる, is not correct. The correct meaning is that you are almost there, or you are about to complete something.
This is what the TV show said, but what I'm more interested in is why more and more native speakers of Japanese are using 煮詰まる in a "wrong" way. Drawing on the idea of Cognitive Linguistics, this new way of using the expression may not be "wrong." It was just unconventional.
Idiomatic expressions, like 煮詰まる, originally started to be used as a metaphor. Which means that people highlighted one image of the expression, 煮詰まる to mean something else. When 煮詰まる started to be used as an idiomatic expression, the image that was first foregrounded was regarded as the conventional meaning of the expression. However, any expression can be construed in several ways if they are used as a metaphor. In the case of 煮詰まる, what image do you have for the word? One construal is you are about to complete something. This is the original interpretation, but another interpretation is also possible. If something is in the state of 煮詰まった, it should have the image that the situation prevents you from moving on smoothly. If this aspect is foregrounded, the meaning of this expression can be that it's hard to do something, or you're in a swamp.
Based on what I've discussed so far, the new meaning of 煮詰まる is not necessarily wrong. It could just be another way of construing the literal expression, 煮詰まる. If more and more native speakers are accepting this new meaning, it could be the second, or extended meaning of the expression.
This is just an example that language is dynamic and always changing.

「流動性がなくなってしまった」という感覚があるかもしれません。でも、「詰まる」という部分の印象が強いために、「行き詰まる」という言い方と混同してしまったのではないかと私は思うのですがいかがでしょうか。「いろいろやりすぎてどうにも行き詰ってしまった」というような感じで。
